New GM Sport for SLSA is Dave Thompson

On behalf of all the Club members I congratulate Dave Thompson on his selection to the position of SLSA’s GM Sport. This position became available when Grant Baldock tendered his resignation to move on to the CEO role with Equestrian Australia.

Dave who commences in the role on Monday 10 May, 2010 has an extensive background in Surf Life Saving. He has been the National Director of Surf Sports for several years, is the ILS World Commissioner for Sport, and has been awarded life membership of Ocean Beach SLSC, SLS Central Coast, and SLSNSW. He is also the most recent Life Member of SLSA. Dave He is a Level 3 Accredited Official, and has extensive knowledge about the important role that sport plays in surf lifesaving and the broader community. He also has extensive credentials in managing sports events at local, State, national and world levels, and sports development programs.

He is joining the management team of SLSA after nearly 28 years working with Telstra where he has held several senior management and General Manager roles, his most recent being Regional Commercial Manger- Retail.

Dave will resign his position as SLSA Director before taking up his new role with SLSA. The Australian Council has appointed Rick Wright OAM to fill the casual vacancy of the Director of Surf Sports position.

On behalf of the Executive and all Club Members please join me in congratulating Dave in this appointment and we wish him all the best in this important role.
